Vice Narcotics Detectives received information related to trespassing complaints that involved a possible marijuana grow operation. The information was that a suspect was utilizing the property of someone else to grow numerous marijuana plants.

As the investigation evolved suspect Jackson โ€œJackโ€ Francis Russell, 55 of Mechanicsville, was confirmed as a suspect.

Detectives, assisted by the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Office Emergency Services Team, executed a search and seizure warrant on Russellโ€™s home. Approximately eight and one half pounds of cultivated marijuana were recovered along with 13 fully matured marijuana plants. The total street value is approximately $40,000. A 2001 GMC Pick up truck (valued at $5,000) was seized as it was used in the transportation of the controlled substance.

Further investigation revealed that Russell was convicted in 2001 of manufacturing marijuana and is a felon. Numerous weapons and ammunition was recovered from the home.

Russell was charged with the marijuana possession and felon in possession of a firearm. Additional charges are pending a Stateโ€™s Attorneyโ€™s Office review.
