The Newtowne Players announce open auditions for the upcoming mystery-thriller Dracula. The show runs Oct. 25 to Nov. 10, 2013. There are roles for six men and two women.

In Dracula, dramatized by Hamilton Dean and John L. Balderston and based on the novel by Bram Stoker, Lucy Seward, whose father is the doctor in charge of an English sanitorium, has been attacked by some mysterious illness. Dr. Van Helsing, a specialist, believes the girl is the victim of a vampire, a sort of ghost that goes about at night sucking blood from its victims. The vampire is at last found to be a certain Count Dracula, whose ghost is at last laid to rest in a striking and novel manner.

Auditions will be held July 14 from 1-3 p.m. and July 17 from 6-8 p.m. Callbacks, if needed, will be held July 18. All auditions will be held at Three Notch Theatre on 21744 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

The ages for the characters, as described below, are suggested ranges; all interested actors should audition and will be considered.

  • Dracula: Age 30-40. A mysterious, polished and distinguished gentleman; continental in manner.
  • Maid: Age 18-20. Young and attractive.
  • Harker: Age 25-30. A typical Englishman; his manner is direct, explosive, incisive and excitable.
  • Dr. Seward: Age 40-60. A typical specialist living in a world of textbooks and patients โ€” not a man of action.
  • Van Hesling: Age 40-60. Nervous, alert, incisive, resourceful in action.
  • Renfield: Any age. Repulsive.
  • Attendent: Age 20-40
  • Lucy: Age 20ish. Young, beautiful, walks with difficulty.
