New Year’s Resolution Guided Hike on January 11 (10 am to 11:30 am), located at American Chestnut Land Trust South Side Trailhead, 1985 Scientists Cliffs Road, Port Republic, MD – Guided Hike. Kick off your New Year’s Resolution to get outside more! Mostly flat; one incline. Frog Pond Trail to Ridge Loop and Flint Trail.

Drinks of History: Chocolate on January 11 (1 pm to 2:30 pm), located at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, 10515 Mackall Road, Saint Leonard, MD – Have you ever wondered how Marie Antoinette or Thomas Jefferson liked their hot chocolate? Learn about the fascinating history of everyone’s favorite winter beverage and even get to try a cup of cocoa prepared in the colonial fashion in this hands-on workshop. Registration is required. This program is generously supported by the Friends of JPPM. $10 Registration Fee.

Introduction to Permaculture in the Greenhouse on January 11 (1 pm to 3 pm), located at Chesapeake’s Bounty, 6415 St. Leonard Road, St. Leonard, MD – Join us in the greenhouse to explore the art and science of permaculture! Discover how to cultivate harmony with nature through thoughtful observation and sustainable practices. Transform your approach to gardening and learn to see the interconnected roles of plants. Suggested donation $25-50, but do not let money stop you from attending, all donations are accepted & appreciated.

Pop-in with Poppie on January 11 (1:30 pm to 2:30 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Make your Saturday afternoon memorable by coming to visit with our very own Pop Star “Poppie,” our Virginia Opossum. You can join the Poppie paparazzi in the museum lobby with one of our educational interpreters, learn all kinds of fun possum facts, and visit our Museum Store for possum fan gear. Since the welfare of our animals is our primary concern, Poppie’s ability to visit with her adoring public may occasionally be subject to change on short notice.

Creature Feature Celebrating The Chinese New Year: Year of the Snake on January 12 (10:15 am to 11:15 am), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Come to the museum for the Monthly Mystery Creature Feature. Every second Tuesday of the month, the CMM Education team will feature an animal in the museum lobby that is not normally on display. Learn about a new animal and discover the wonderful variety of creatures found in our local estuaries. Take-home educational coloring pages will be available. Check our social media feed for the big reveal on Monday to find out what Tuesday’s Creature Feature will be!

Beyond the Displays: Artifact Stories on January 12 (1:30 pm to 2:30 pm), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – Discover the history behind the emblem from a paddle wheel boat, the tools found in the blacksmith shop, and the Gov. R. M. McLane name board. Hear captivating stories about WWII’s impact on the Solomons community and uncover hidden pictures within the museum murals. It’s a unique opportunity to delve into local history and see these artifacts in a new light. Included with museum admission.

Through the Lens of PHS Art Show on January 14 (5 pm to 7 pm), located at CalvART Gallery, 110 Solomons Island Road N, Prince Frederick, MD – Join us for Patuxent High School’s art show titled, “Through the Lens of PHS Art Show.” This show is a collection of Patuxent student’s art throughout the school year. A lot of the work showcases various seasons, a few portraits, and photography. The show features drawings, paintings, photography, and possibly a few 3D pieces. We hope you will come out to the CalvART Gallery to witness these student’s talents.

Small Business Mixer & Gift Card Raffle on January 14 (6:30 pm to 9 pm), located at Mr. C’s Cigar Lounge, 236 Town Square Drive, Lusby, MD – Join us at Mr. C’s Cigar Lounge for our Small Business Mixer held every third Tuesday of the month from 6:30pm to 9pm. This relaxed gathering offers like-minded individuals a chance to network over cigars in a casual atmosphere. There’s no need for formal attire or agenda – just come as you are and enjoy the camaraderie. A Night at the Colonial Coffee House on January 15 (6:30 pm to 8:30 pm), located at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum, 10515 Mackall Road, Saint Leonard, MD – Did colonists do open mic nights at their coffee shops? Was it where all the 18th-century hipsters spent their days reading and writing? If these questions piqued your interest, then join us for a cup of joe (prepared in the colonial style) as we talk about colonial coffee houses and maybe try a couple of coffee house games. (Don’t worry there will be no open mics!). $10 Registration Fee.

Trivia Night on January 15 (6:30 pm to 8:30 pm), located at CBQ, 4150 Mears Avenue, Chesapeake Beach, MD – Get ready for a night of fun and excitement at CBQ’s Trivia Night! Instead of the usual fact-based questions, we’ve surveyed the nation with a series of fun and quirky questions. Your team will compete by trying to guess the most popular answers. It’s a game of wits, laughter, and strategy that levels the playing field and guarantees a good time for all! Little Minnows: Wacky Weather on January 16 (10:15 am and 11:15 am), located at Calvert Marine Museum, 14200 Solomons Island Road S, Solomons, MD – For preschoolers ages 3 – 5, with an adult. This program focuses on one of the museum’s three themes. Join us for story time and a craft, available while supplies last. Sessions are 25-40 minutes. Wade Elementary PTO and Volunteers Wade Family Fun Night at Scary Strokes on January 15 (3 pm to 8 pm), located at Scary Stroke, 2960 Technology Place Suite 106, Waldorf, MD – Join us for a good time at Scary Strokes on January 15th!
