Why my mom is the greatest.
As founder of the terrapin Institute she spends countless hours trying to save one of Maryland’s trademark species.
In the summer of 2003 the State of Maryland ended there Terrapin program and laid off Margie Whilden after over 20 years of dedicated state service.
Now most people would slump into a depression and never go back into that field again, but not my mom.
For the past three years she continued to do the same job she was doing before, only this time it was volunteer work.
She has used her own money to buy Terrapins off the chopping block and release them back into the wild.
She has been in countless articles and even on National ABC News. And through all this she put one son through college while raising another through elementary school.
She works hard for what she believes is the right thing to do and never even held a grudge.
She is a great role model for her two sons and a great role model for the community at large.
This is why my mom deserves to be chosen as the greatest mom.
