LEONARDTOWN, MD — The groundbreaking ceremony for the new St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Support Services Facility has been postponed due to the forecast of inclement weather, including the risk of thunderstorms.
County officials said the decision was made with the safety of guests, elected officials and event staff as the top priority.
The ceremony, originally scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, has been rescheduled for:

The ceremony will be held in the rear parking lot of the St. Mary’s County Board of Elections, overlooking the future site of the new Support Services Facility.
Officials noted that parking at the location is limited and encouraged attendees to carpool whenever possible.
Those who previously RSVP’d and are no longer able to attend due to the date change are asked to reply to the original invitation email to update their attendance.
The groundbreaking marks a significant milestone in the development of the new St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Support Services Facility, which will provide additional space and resources to support the agency’s operations.
