Saturday saw the launch of the 2008 drag racing season at Maryland International Raceway. The Mountain Motor Nationals attracted top professional drivers from across the nation to MIR, where the speeds climbed and the times dropped with each new bracket well into the night.

MIR fans were treated to the new Raceway park and enjoyed the new concession stand and the beautiful new bathrooms. Most of all, they were mesmerized by the national level of competition.

Adding spice to the evening was the โ€œPick Royceโ€™s Pocketโ€ competition. As explained by Royce Miller, the points E.T. races started on April 1 and after the first two points races, the top points leaders have a chance to win a half season car and driver pass to the raceway.โ€

Miller went on to say that only one driver, Jake Milstead competing in the Top E.T. took advantage and won his pass. In order to win, points leaders had to thunder down the asphalt track and match a posted time on the scoreboard. โ€œMilstead matched 7:91, his target. All the others were too fast or too slow to win,โ€ Miller said.

The next big event at MIR is the nationally televised NOPI Nationals on May 17. Racing enthusiasts from around the world and broadcast television crews will descend upon the new and updated MIR by the thousands, Perhaps some other lucky E.T racer can โ€œPick Royceโ€™s Pocketโ€ on national television.
