INDIAN HEAD, Md. — A kitchen fire displaced a family of five Thursday, March 6, 2025, after firefighters quickly contained the blaze in a townhouse on Dale Drive near McWilliams Road.

Fire and rescue crews responded to the scene at approximately 11:57 a.m. to find smoke showing from the 3-level townhouse. Firefighters had the fire under control within 10 minutes, preventing it from spreading to neighboring homes.

No injuries were reported, and the family’s dog was safely located and reunited with its owners outside. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office was notified, and the fire was determined to be accidental, caused by cooking.

With the home deemed uninhabitable, the Red Cross was contacted to assist one adult and four children displaced by the fire.
