Spring has arrived and everyone is out enjoying the warm days and bright sunshine. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to please be mindful of children out playing in the neighborhoods and pedestrians enjoying evening and weekend walks. With the warm weather we also see an increase in bicyclists and motorcycle riders enjoying breeze in their ride.
This weekend marks the beginning of the tourist season in Solomon’s Island with the opening of the Tiki Bar. The Tiki Bar opening draws in hundreds of patrons from around the region to Solomon’s Island for a weekend of celebration. The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office will be assisting the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office this weekend with increased traffic safety, saturation patrols.
In addition to the opening of the Tiki Bar this weekend, there will be (2) two “Blessing of the Bike’s” events held in St. Mary’s County. St. Mary’s County will experience a significant increase in motor vehicle traffic which boosts the chances of collisions.
The Sheriff’s Office is asking everyone to please put “Safety First”. We offer the following suggestions: plan ahead, allow plenty of travel time, watch for pedestrians, share the roadways with bicyclists and motorcyclists, celebrate responsible and designate a sober driver. Working together we will have a safe and successful spring and summer.
