WALDORF, Md. — A tree worker was fatally electrocuted Wednesday morning after coming into contact with power lines while cutting a tree in Waldorf.
Emergency responders were dispatched to Motley Place around 11:30 a.m. on March 12, 2025, following a 911 call reporting that a climber had struck live wires, causing electrocution and visible fire.
Upon arrival, fire and rescue crews found the man unresponsive, approximately 25 feet up in the tree. Despite initial reports of flames, no active fire was present when crews reached the scene. The victim was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) responded promptly to secure and neutralize the power lines. The victim’s identity will be released once the next of kin has been notified. The incident remains under investigation.
