WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump[R] was briefly evacuated by the U.S. Secret Service at his Monday press conference after what was confirmed to be an armed man who was shot down just outside the grounds of the White House.

The Secret Service has since confirmed that there was an officer-involved shooting at 17th Street and Pennsylvania Ave, and that law enforcement is currently on the scene. The gunman is reportedly now in custody but at the hospital.

Trump would later return to the room to continue his press conference and to provide some additional details.

“There was a shooting outside of the White House and it seems to be very well under control,” Trump said. “I’d like to thank the Secret Service for doing their always quick and very effective work.”

Trump would later answer reporters, saying that facilities had not been breached and that the gunman appears to be the only person injured.

This is a developing story.
