GLEN BURNIE, Md. — Two Laurel men were arrested after a traffic stop led to the discovery of a loaded handgun and suspected drugs packaged for distribution on March 5, 2026.

According to police, an officer assigned to the Eastern District observed a vehicle with a brake light out at approximately 1:30 p.m. and conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Hospital Drive and Elvaton Road.

During the stop, the officer determined the driver did not have a valid driver’s license and observed a large backpack positioned between the driver’s legs. Additional officers responded to assist, and both occupants were asked to exit the vehicle.

While outside the vehicle, the driver attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody. Officers reported the suspect repeatedly reached toward his chest area, prompting officers to detain him and recover a loaded 9mm handgun.

A search of the backpack uncovered suspected drugs packaged for sale, including approximately 506 grams of suspected marijuana, 12 grams of suspected cannabis oil, about 1,200 grams of suspected promethazine, and a digital scale.

Francis Junior Williams, 18, of Laurel, and Amari Lathan Harrison, 19, of Laurel, were arrested and charged with multiple offenses including possession of controlled dangerous substances, possession with intent to distribute narcotics, possession of cannabis over the civil limit, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Williams also faces numerous firearm-related charges and additional charges including resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, and failure to obey a lawful order.

Court records show Williams was held in default of $25,000 bond.

A hearing is set for March 9, 2026 in Anne Arundel District Court in Annapolis.
