At approximately 12:28 a.m. today, two people were killed in a vehicle crash on West Chesapeake Beach Road (Route 260), in the area of Jewell Road in Dunkirk.
A Calvert County Sheriff officer was first on the scene, reporting one vehicle on fire with the driver trapped inside. The officer reportedly attempted to free the driver but was unable.
Police report this morning that a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Gene Hall, 29 of Owings, had crossed the center line and traveled into the westbound lane striking a 1993 Chevy van.
Both drivers were killed on impact.
The name of the van driver has not yet been released because the family has not yet been notified.
The right front seat passenger of the van, Lee Roberts, was flown to Prince Georgeโs Hospital for incapacitating injuries; he is expected to make a full recovery.
Alcohol was not a factor in this crash and all occupants were restrained.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
Volunteer firefighters and rescue squad members from Dunkirk and North Beach responded.
