A man was ejected from, and trapped under, an SUV early Saturday morning in a two-vehicle crash on St. Andrews Church Road near FDR Drive.
Bay District and Hollywood rescue volunteers were dispatched to the crash at 2:12 a.m. First arriving personnel reported a vehicle on its side in the ditch with a person trapped underneath.
Firefighters used chains and a wince for stabilization, while high-pressure air bags from Hollywood’s Squad 7 were used to slowly lift the vehicle. Once the vehicle was lifted high enough, the patient was pulled out from underneath, back boarded and transported to Trooper 7 helicopter waiting at the St. Mary’s Airport, reports Bay District Fire Captain Jeffrey Bixby.
Police on the scene were also hard at work, with two men arrested for driving under the influence. One driver was involved in the crash. The other driver had stopped near the scene, but was not involved in the crash.
