
LA PLATA, Md. — Two men were injured early Tuesday morning after their SUV collided with a salt truck on Crain Highway near Shepherds Creek Place.
The crash occurred January 7, 2025, around 12:05 a.m. when the SUV, attempting to pass the salt truck, struck its rear. The impact caused the SUV to catch fire, prompting a swift response from emergency crews.
When firefighters arrived, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. Both occupants, a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old, had managed to escape before the fire spread. EMS evaluated the men on the scene.
The 19-year-old suffered a broken leg, while the 21-year-old appeared to have minor injuries. Both were transported to the UM Charles Regional Medical Center for further treatment.
The collision remains under investigation. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
