The Newtowne Players will present two short plays, “Ancestral Voices” and “Time Flies”, their award-winning one-act play, at Three Notch Theatre on the 16th, 17th, and 18th of February.

In a wonderful contrast of styles and perspectives on life, these two stories offer drama, laughs, sentiment and silliness. Family visits to Grandma’s and talks with Gramps about trout fishing and the old days give way to new faces and changing priorities, as Eddie recalls the conversations that accompanied their lives in “Ancestral Voices” by A. R. Gurney (author of “Love Letters”, presented last year).ย  Among the notable Newtowne Players who will be reading are Wendy Heidrich, company founder and Artistic Director, and veteran performers Linda Lagle and John Giusti. On Sunday, Charles Stein, of Patuxent Habitat For Humanity, and Virginia Stein, of the St. Mary’s County League of Women Voters will be our special guest readers.

In a much different look at the changes life brings, “Time Flies” shows us life in the hyper fast lane of two Mayflies, known mostly for having one of the shortest life spans in the animal kingdom.ย  In this year’s Maryland State Community Theater Festival, this production received an award as Runner-Up for Best Production, as well as an acting award for Sarah Raley-Dale and a costuming award for Annie Whitmore.

Greg Rumpf and P.J. Baker fill out the cast, brought to life (briefly) by “freshman” director, Morriah Cell, specifically for the one-act festival, and now returning home to share their joy.
