Resignations in two positions in St. Mary’s County Public Schools has led to the school superintendent freezing those positions in order to save money.
Zina McGowan-Thomas, who has been the school system’s public information officer for14 years, has resigned to take a position with Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority. Her position will not be filled.
Also, School Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano told the school board Wednesday that a pupil personnel worker had resigned and that position would not be filled.
The superintendent said other staffers would pitch in to do the duties in those two positions. He said, “These are two significant positions that are needed in the school system.”
