At approximately 12:10ย a.m. on July 23 patrol officers from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barracks, responded to the report of a motor vehicle collision on Lockes Crossing Road in the area of Copsey Corner Lane in Mechanicsville.

Upon arriving on the scene officers found a Ford F-250 pick-up truck on its side. Theย driver had been ejected.

Due to the severity of the collision patrol officers requested collision reconstructionists to respond to the scene. Members of the Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.

Investigation revealed the Ford F-250 was traveling east-bound on Lockes Crossing Road in the area of Copsey Corner Lane when it left theย east-bound shoulder and struck an embankment. This caused the vehicle to roll over several times, during which time the driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected. Theย driver of the vehicle was identified as a seventeen year old boyย from Mechanicsville.

Theย teen was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital by the Mechanicsville Volunteer Rescue Squad and a short time later flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Unit in Baltimore where he is listed in critical condition.

At this time alcohol and speed are both considered contributing factors in the collision.

The Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team is continuing the investigation.
