United Way of Charles County announces the award of $100,000 to various Partners to be used to enhance the educational landscape of the County. The funds used to support this grant were raised during the United Way Workplace Giving campaign. When donors opt to give into the Community Impact Fund, no fees are assessed and 100% of the gift supports programs within Charles County. This year, 16 partners requested over $224,000. In consideration of the intent of the funds and the guidelines defined to our partners, the funds were allocated as follows:
The Center for Abused Persons was awarded $14,450 to support domestic violence prevention education workshops and classes. The Center for Children was awarded $20,000 to bring Triple-P (Positive Parenting Program) to Charles County residents. Charles County Childrenโs Aid was awarded $10,000 for its bullying prevention program. Charles County Literacy Council was awarded $14,200 to expand their adult literacy education program into Western Charles County and implement an outreach program. Greater Baden Medical Services was awarded $11,650 for their diabetes self-management education program. Health Partners was awarded $6,400 to bring 6-week workshops on Chronic Disease Management to local citizens. Melwood was awarded $11,250 for Operation: Tohidu an indoor/outdoor education program for veterans with PTSD to learn about their condition and how to cope with a post-war life. Tri-County Youth Services Bureau was awarded $12,050 to bring the Asset Development program to local, at-risk youth.
