Update: 01/21/14, 1 p.m. — State fire investigators say a fire that destroyed a barn in Hollywood was โ€œincendiary,โ€ meaning it was set. A report from the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office does not say whether they believe it was intentionally set.

The fire was reported by a neighbor of the barn on Three Notch Road (Route 235) a half mile north of St. Johnโ€™s Road at 2:15 a.m. on Sunday. It took 35 firefighters from the Hollywood, Leonardtown, Bay District, Solomons and Seventh District volunteer fire departments an hour to bring the blaze under control. Southbound Three Notch Road was closed for nearly two hours because of the incident.

According to Deputy State Fire Marshal John Ray the loss was estimated at $15,000 to the structure and $5,000 to the contents. In addition to the loss of the barn, a camper inside the barn was destroyed. Ray says that a large amount of hay inside the barn fueled the fire in the 28- by-48 foot tobacco barn. The barn was owned by the Dean Partnership.
