On April 12, at 1:31 p.m., St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team responded to Three Notch Road and New Market Turner Road in Mechanicsville, for a serious motor vehicle collision.ย
Investigation revealed a black 2001 Chevrolet Impala, MD registration JEJ881, driven by Carlton Keith Wright, 70 of Nanjemoy, was traveling eastbound on New Market Turner Road approaching Three Notch Road.ย Wright had a flashing red signal at the intersection.ย A blue 2004 Dodge Stratus, MD registration 5EYF69, driven by Brian Ashley Copsey, 24 of Mechanicsville, was traveling southbound on Three Notch approaching New Market Turner Road.ย Copsey had a flashing yellow signal.ย
Wright failed to yield right of way to Copsey’s vehicle while crossing the intersection and was struck on the driver’s side.ย The impact sent Wright’s vehicle into a curb causing the vehicle to overturn.ย Wright was flown to Prince George’s County Hospital by MSP Trooper 7 where he succumbed to his injuries.ย Wright’s wife/passenger, Joan Wright, 70, was flown by MSP Trooper 2 to Prince George’s Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.ย Both were wearingย seatbeltโs.ย
Copsey was flown by US Park Police Eagle 2 to Prince George’s Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.ย He was not wearing a seatbelt.ย It is not believed speed or alcohol was a contributing factor in the accident.ย

At approximately, 1:20 p.m. on Sunday, April 12, a multiple car accident at the intersection of State Route 5 and State Route 6 in New Market saw at least three injured and resulted in two male and one female victim being transported to PG Shock Trauma by emergency helicopter.
Units from Mechanicsville and EMS arrived and established a landing zone after victims were extracted from mangled vehicles. Troopers 7 and 2 of the Maryland State Police and Eagle 2 from the U.S. Park Service flew the patients out.
No word on the cause of the accident. Accident reconstruction units are working on the cause. More details to follow as they are released by authorities.
