Strong winds and heavy rain slammed through Southern Maryland Saturday afternoon. There are reports of numerous trees and power lines down. There are unconfirmed reports of several tornado touchdowns. Newburg and Chaptico appear to be the hardest hit.

Emergency responders are being taxed to the limit with reported accidents, including one on Route 5 in Mechaniscville, and fires, including in Gallant Green and California.

Charles County Emergency Management reports Morgantown Road is shut down at Rock Point Rd Rt. 257, and will remain shut down for several more hours at least Glen Albin Rd is shut down between Ligouri Pl and Harmony Hills Rd. Bowling Dr is washed out at the 10000 block, Popes Creek Rd at Keechland Farm Rd part of roadway is caving in. Rock Point Rt 257 at Mill Run Rd pard of the road is washed away. Use caution in these areas. several roads with flooding/high water conditions:  Oliver Shop at Oaks Rd, Spring Hill Newtown Rd at Glenn Albin Rd and several areas of Crain Hwy from Newburg to Bel Alton.  Please use caution when driving and avoid the flooded areas.

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Department reports Sixes Road in the 5700 block in Prince Frederick is closed due to flooding.

Multiple trees are reported down near Chopticon High School. Trees and wires are down in area of Loveville Road and Busy Corner Road in Loveville.

Flooding is reported in Great Mills.
