Solomons, MD – Good Samaritans and several public safety agencies came to the aid of two sailboaters whose vessel overturned in the Patuxent River Thursday evening, May 4.
According to Maryland Natural Resources Police spokeswoman Candy Thomson, both men aboard the 16-foot sailboat refused medical treatment. The sailboat was not damaged and was subsequently hauled back to land. The incident was reported at approximately 7:47 p.m. Crews from Calvert and St. Mary’s counties’ fire departments responded and the Coast Guard and Maryland State Police aviation were also alert.
A man and a woman aboard a 19-foot skiff came to the aid of the sailboaters, one of whom had fallen in the water.
Update: 8:20 PM. — The sailboat has been towed to shore.
Patuxent River May 4, 7:48 PM. — A small sailboat is reported to be overturned and drifting towards the Thomas Johnson Bridge.
Fire department boats from throughout the area are responding.
The Coast Guard and Md. State Police Aviation have been alerted.
