motor vehicle accident in southern maryland

WALDORF, Md. — A woman was hospitalized early Thursday after her car struck a utility pole on Mattawoman Beantown Road near Pinefield Road in Waldorf.

The crash was reported around 2:37 a.m. Sept. 18, 2025. Deputies with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office found the driver, a 34-year-old woman, with a head injury and possible signs of intoxication.

Emergency medical crews initially described her injuries as minor but later upgraded her condition when she became disoriented. A medevac helicopter was requested, but poor weather forced crews to take her by ground ambulance.

She was transported to the UM Capital Region Medical Center in Largo with serious, life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
