
LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — John Richard Gregory III, 44, of Lexington Park, was arrested on Sept. 24, 2025, following a reported domestic assault at a residence in Lexington Park. Gregory is charged with second-degree assault after deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, according to court filings.
Court documents state deputies made contact with two individuals exiting the residence. One victim reported that she and Gregory had been engaged in a verbal argument that escalated. The victim told deputies that Gregory allegedly became agitated and began throwing items around the home.
During the altercation, the victim reported that the situation escalated further and became physical. According to the victim’s account, Gregory allegedly choked her with one hand and then struck her in the face with a wrench. Deputies reported observing marks and injuries they noted were consistent with the victim’s statement. The confrontation reportedly ended when another household member intervened and separated Gregory and the victim.
Gregory initially denied any physical altercation but later told deputies that another household member attacked him and placed him in a chokehold, court documents state. Deputies reported that no visible signs of injury were observed on Gregory. He was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center.
Under Maryland law, second-degree assault is a misdemeanor punishable by up to 10 years in prison and a $2,500 fine if convicted.
Court records show a trial is set for Nov. 4, 2025, at 9 a.m. in St. Mary’s District Court.
