The Sunday, Nov. 11 Veterans Day Service at Chesapeake Beach Veterans Park was held under sunny skies and provided attendees with a chance to salute the volunteers and draftees who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
ย
The extremely brief ceremony showcased a long line of community contributors. The Knights of Columbus Lord Baltimore Assembly posted the colors. The Young Marines of Chesapeake Beach participated in six of the nine wreath placements. The Chesapeake Community Chorus sang โThe Star Spangled Bannerโ and America the Beautiful.โ
ย
The event was sponsored by Stallings -Williams Post 206. Clara Mae Buckmaster, the postโs chaplain, and Harry Hill, assistant chaplain, provided the programโs invocation and benediction while post Vice President Rosalie Russell led the Pledge of Allegiance.
ย
American Legion Post 206 Commander Jack Custis offered brief remarks. โWe can never repay our veterans,โ said Custis, who urged attendees to โthank the next veteran you see.โ Custis also asked business owners to strongly consider hiring veterans when they apply for work
.
Many of the attendees went to Post 206 for an open house immediately following the ceremony.
