WALDORF, Md. — Firefighters battled a stubborn house fire that caused part of a roof to collapse Thursday afternoon in the White Oak neighborhood of Waldorf.

The fire was reported around 4 p.m. on March 20, 2025, on Progress Court after a 911 caller reported brown smoke coming from a neighbor’s roof. When firefighters arrived, smoke was pouring from all sides of the home, with flames visible through the attic.

Roughly 25 minutes after arrival, firefighters reported a partial roof collapse as they worked to contain flames hidden in several difficult-to-access void spaces. Crews remained on scene for an extended period to fully extinguish the fire.
