
WALDORF, Md. — A Lanham woman was arrested after Target loss prevention reported she concealed store merchandise in a bag and attempted to leave the Waldorf store without paying, according to charging documents.
Kijah Renee Powers, 22, of Lanham, is charged with theft of $100 to under $1,500.
A Charles County officer responded around 6:08 p.m. on May 30, 2026, to the Target at 3300 Western Parkway in Waldorf for a reported theft.
When the officer arrived, a Target loss prevention officer told police she saw Powers walk through the store while concealing merchandise in a large plastic bag that she had before entering the store, charging documents state.
The loss prevention officer said Powers was seen on store security cameras walking through multiple departments, selecting items and placing them in the bag and on her person.
Powers then allegedly walked past all points of sale and attempted to leave the store without paying for the items, according to charging documents.
A Target employee stopped Powers and escorted her to the loss prevention office. Store personnel provided police with an itemized list of the recovered merchandise, which totaled $252.30, according to the report.
She was placed under arrest and transported to the Charles County Detention Center to be charged.
Court records show Powers was released on recognizance on May 30, 2026.
A trial is set for July 14, 2026, in Charles District Court.
