WALDORF, Md. – On May 18, 2023, volunteers of the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department and EMS Westlake Station #12 joined the staff and students at Mattawoman Middle School for their annual “career day” event. The men and women from the fire department and EMS dressed up in their emergency gear, showcasing their fire trucks and answering questions from the students about their profession.
Over 100 students attended the event, eager to learn more about what it takes to become a volunteer. The members from Westlake were happy to oblige, sharing their knowledge and expertise with the future volunteers of the community.
Students were given the opportunity to try on firefighter emergency gear. The students were thrilled to see what it would be like to wear the gear and experience what it would feel like to move around with all the extra weight. The firefighters were also able to show the students how to properly put on and take off the gear, as well as explain the importance of each piece of equipment.
The event was a great success, with all attendees enjoying the opportunity to get up close and personal with the fire truck and its crew. Volunteer Firefighter/Chauffeur Tuaron Griffin captured the excitement of the day with some stunning photographs, which are sure to be treasured memories for all involved.
We would like to extend our thanks to the volunteers from Company #12 for their dedication to the community. It’s events like this that inspire the next generation of firefighters and ensure that our community remains safe and secure.
