More than 450 walkers and volunteers came out to Walk MS presented by Booz Allen Hamilton at Wade Elementary School in on April 10.ย  Walk MS is expected to raise more than $1 million to support the National MS Society, National Capital Chapter.

โ€œWalk MS is the Chapterโ€™s biggest fundraiser,โ€ said Chris Broullire, National MS Society Chapter President.ย  โ€œThe money raised by our participants and provided by our sponsors supports MS research and programs and services for local people living with the disease.โ€

After checking in at the elementary school, walkers started on a three-mile route, which was supported by volunteers.ย  WHURโ€™s Lorna Newton spoke at the start line of Walk MS.ย  Troy Richardson, CEO of Yobics, Inc., led warm-ups, and Chick-fil-A provided lunch.

Walk MS events were also held at four other locations throughout southern Maryland and northern Virginia on Saturday and Sunday.ย  A sixth walk will be held in Washington, D.C., on Saturday, April 17.

MS is a neurological disease that interrupts the flow of information from the brain to the body and stops people from moving.ย  Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis.ย  More than 400,000 Americans have been diagnosed with the disease, according to the National MS Society.
