GLEN BURNIE, Md. — The Anne Arundel County Library is offering couples a rare opportunity for a one-of-a-kind wedding. On Feb. 14, a limited number of couples will be able to get married at their public library.
The Anne Arundel County Clerk of the Circuit Court’s Office will visit the Glen Burnie, Severn, and Deale branches of the library and conduct five wedding ceremonies at each branch. The ceremonies will take place from 8 a.m. to 9:20 a.m. and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Couples must obtain a marriage license before requesting an appointment. The next step is to make an appointment for a library ceremony at the Clerk’s Office License Department by calling 410-222-1434. A marriage license is $55, and the ceremony fee is $25, both of which must be paid before the ceremony. Information about marriage licenses is available online.
The library will also permit up to 18 guests to attend the wedding ceremony, but wants to be clear this is for a ceremony only — they will not be providing food, beverages, flowers, photography, or a reception space. So, if couples want to celebrate, they’ll have to head elsewhere with their guests after the ceremony.
Library weddings are growing in popularity, with an increasing number of literary-minded couples looking for an intimate space to say “I do.” Both public and private libraries host weddings, and some spaces do allow for receptions.
But if you’re looking to get married soon, take advantage of this unique Valentine’s Day opportunity at the library — it only happens once a year.
