PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A Bowie woman is facing assault charges after a private citizen alleged she struck him and his father during a confrontation outside the Calvert County Courthouse in Prince Frederick, according to court documents.
Melissa Ann Wilson, of Bowie, was charged in the District Court for Calvert County with two counts of second-degree assault stemming from the July 1, 2026, incident. The charges were filed through a Statement of Charges (SOC) application, meaning the case was initiated by a private citizen rather than by law enforcement.
According to the application for statement of charges, the incident occurred in the parking lot of the Calvert County Courthouse in Prince Frederick shortly after the complainant left a court proceeding July 1.
The complainant alleged he recognized Wilson across the parking lot and approached her to ask whether she was someone he believed to be his cousin. After Wilson responded that she was not, the complainant said he offered condolences regarding the recent death of a family member.
According to the charging documents, the interaction quickly escalated into a verbal dispute involving the complainant, Wilson and members of their respective families. The complainant alleged the argument centered on longstanding family disagreements and accusations concerning family matters.
The complainant stated Wilson then walked toward his father, prompting him to step between them. He alleged Wilson subsequently struck him in the left arm before later punching him in the head. The complainant also alleged Wilson struck his father during the confrontation.
According to the application, the complainant reported suffering bruising to his left arm and stated no additional blows occurred after the initial altercation. He also indicated that a court bailiff responded after the incident and advised him to report the matter to the Maryland State Police if he wished to pursue criminal charges.
The charging documents further state the complainant completed an application requesting criminal charges against Wilson, alleging one count of second-degree assault for each of the two alleged victims.
Court records show the statement of charges was filed on July 6, 2026. Wilson is scheduled to appear for a preliminary inquiry on Aug. 31, 2026, at the Calvert District Court.
