PORT TOBACCO, Md. — As the 2026 bald eagle nesting season approaches, wildlife watchers can once again tune in to the Bald Eagle Nest Cam to observe resident eagles Chandler and Hope at their nest in Port Tobacco River Park in Charles County.

The live stream, hosted by the Charles County Government’s Department of Recreation, Parks, and Tourism with support from local partners, offers a real-time look at one of the region’s most closely watched eagle nests.

According to the official Eagle Cam stream, the typical egg-laying window for this nest is Jan. 31 to Feb. 14, with hatching expected between March 10 and March 22.

According to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, after hatching, eaglets remain in the nest for about 10 to 12 weeks, cared for by both parents. By June, they begin taking short practice flights, and by August, most have fledged and left the nest area. Juvenile eagles adopt a nomadic lifestyle, often traveling great distances, and typically reach full maturity — including the distinctive white head and tail — at around five years of age.

The nest cam stream is available 24/7, with moderated live chat resuming Jan. 26, 2026. Volunteers will host regular chat sessions on the following schedule:

  • Mondays from 9–10 a.m. “Breakfast with the Eagles”
  • Fridays from 4–5 p.m. “Happy Hour with the Eagles”

Eagle Cam moderators and volunteers will also be available during key nesting milestones to answer questions and provide educational insights.

“Patience is key when tuning in, as they aren’t always home,” Charles County Parks and Recreation shared on Facebook. “But when you do spot them, we can promise that the wait will be worth it!”
