Mechanicsville, MD – A local weather spotter for the National Weather Service (NWS) has reported witnessing the touchdown of a tornado in St. Mary’s County May 16. Lance Kebaugh told TheBayNet.com that he saw the tornado touch the ground at the intersection of Three Notch Road and Flora Corner Road around 7:25 p.m.

“It was raining like crazy,” said Kebaugh, who explained the funnel was on the ground for about 20 seconds before it dissipated. Kebaugh said he tried but was unable to get pictures of the twister.

Kebaugh said he has forwarded his finding to the NWS and “they will either take me on my word or send someone out to check the damage pattern.”

The local weather spotter told TheBayNet.com that the last time he witnessed a tornado in St. Mary’s “was seven or eight years ago.”
