In Weekย 4 of SMAC Football, we saw a few firsts for things this season. Westlake lost their first game of the season,ย and we had our first overtime game of the season with St. Charles and Chopticon. For full recaps around the league, keep reading below.
Calvert 40, McDonough 8
ย At Calvertโs homecoming game, they showed up to play. By jumping out to a 19-0 lead at halftime, they buried the Rams early in the second half when they got up by 26 points before the Rams got a score on the board. The Cavaliers threw the shovel away with two fourth quarter touchdowns. This dropped the Rams to 0-4, and the Cavaliers improved to 3-1.
North Point 23, Westlake 7
ย Westlake held the lead at half 7-6, but couldnโt keep the powerful Eagles offense at bay for long in this bitter rivalry game. Both teams were undefeated coming into this game, and had been talking trash with each other over social media all throughout the week. North Pointโs offense woke up in the second half, and their defense continued their dominance. North Point improves to 4-0, and Westlake drops to 3-1.
Patuxent 42, La Plata 0
ย Patuxent jumped out to an early lead on La Plata, leading 21-0 after the first quarter. They tacked on one touchdown in each of the remaining quarters, and with 10 minutes left in the third quarter, activated the running clock for the second straight week as they jumped ahead 35-0. They put together one more touchdown in the fourth to make it 42-0. Patuxent improves to 4-0, and La Plata drops to 0-4.ย
Chopticon 13, St. Charles 7 (OT)
ย In our first overtime game of the season, Chopticonโs defense held the Spartans offense out of the endzone all game. All scoring was either in the fourth quarter, or overtime as Brandon Blackwell scored both touchdowns for the Braves, and St. Charles scored on a kickoff return following his first. St Charles lost their starting quarterback Demarco Beatty, most likely for the season, due to a broken collarbone in the first half. Chopticon jumps up to 3-1, while St. Charles drops to 0-4.
Northern 29, Leonardtown 7
ย Northern jumped out to an early lead at 14-0 before Leonardtown made it interesting just before the half with a score of their own. It was 14-7 at half, but Northern shut down the Leonartown offense, and put two scores on the board to finish off the Raiders. Northern improves to 2-2, and Leonardtown drops to 1-3.
Huntingtown 30,ย Great Mills 13
Great Mills had the lead midway through the 3rd quarter at 7-6, but let the Caneโs loose as they put up 24 points in the fourth quarter. Great Mills attempted to make a comeback, but couldnโt get any momentum off of their touchdown. Great Mills drops to 1-3, while Huntingtown improves to 1-3.
