LEXINGTON PARK, MD — Spanish mackerel swam into a pound netter’s trap in Cornfield Harbor on Monday. There were also chopper bluefish in the 19 to 24 inch size and a couple of brutes in excess of 30 inches, bull redfish, and big black drum.
The summertime fish continue to swim into our waters as cobia have been sighted below the Target Ship. The fish are finicky eaters and want live eels. The Tackle Box now has them at the ready as the season begins on June 15.
Spot And Croaker Fill Rivers And Creeks
Spot and tiny croaker are in the rivers and creeks. Croaker must be 9 inches to keep and the little ones grow fast. The spot are excellent for live-lining bait for stripers. The big ones are excellent eating and they will increase in size and numbers daily.
Some diligent perch seekers found some honey holes in the lower Patuxent River this week and brought home trophy-sized fish.
Rockfish And Bluefish Bite Strong After Sunset
Both rockfish and bluefish have been caught daily by lure casters in the Potomac River, Patuxent River, and the St. Mary’s River this week. Some speckled trout have been caught near grass beds at Kitts Point in the Potomac. Both boaters and shore casters are finding eager fish at dusk and dawn.
New Launch Access Opens At St. Inigoes Landing
St. Inigoes Landing has been rebuilt at the end of Beachville Road and is now open. A great place to launch your boat or to fish from pier and sandy beach. Rockfish, trout, spot, and perch have been caught there in previous seasons.
Blue Catfish Bite Strong At Kings Landing
Blue catfish are in full summertime mode. The catfish bite has been very good up the Patuxent River at Kings Landing, where shore fishermen have caught some big ones this week.
