EDGEWATER, Md. — West Marine is closing four Maryland stores as part of a nationwide restructuring that will shutter dozens of locations across the country following the company’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
The boating and marine supply retailer is closing 59 stores across 23 states, according to the company’s store closure directory and national reports.
In Maryland, the stores listed for closure are in Baltimore, Edgewater, Rock Hall and Ocean City. The listed addresses are 2700 Lighthouse Point East, Suite 100, in Baltimore; 3257-B Solomon’s Island Road in Edgewater; 21386 Rock Hall Avenue in Rock Hall; and 12638 Ocean Gateway, Units 1-5, in Ocean City.
The closures come after West Marine filed for voluntary Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in May. The company has described the closures as part of an effort to align its store footprint with current business needs while continuing to serve customers through remaining stores and online.
West Marine, founded in 1968, is one of the nation’s best-known boating supply chains, selling marine electronics, fishing gear, boat maintenance products, safety equipment, sailing supplies and watersports gear.
Reports on the restructuring cited financial pressures including supply chain disruptions, extreme weather events, shifting consumer behavior and reduced demand for higher-cost recreational equipment.
The company’s closure page states customers can continue shopping online and through remaining stores. It also states warranties, product support and West Advantage Rewards accounts will continue.
West Marine’s Solomons store is not listed among the Maryland closures. The company’s website continues to list the Solomons location at 14030 H.G. Trueman Road as an active store offering boating supplies, boat parts, sailing, fishing and paddling products.
For Southern Maryland boaters, the Solomons store remains listed as open on West Marine’s website.
