PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — June is Pride Month, and communities across Southern Maryland will be celebrating and recognizing their LGBTQ+ members. Things are already in swing: the Charles County Department of Health held its fourth annual PrEP for Pride Festival at the end of last month, and PFLAG Southern Maryland was present at a Pride Month proclamation in St. Mary’s County, with more proclamations to be made in Calvert and Charles counties.
No matter your age, gender, orientation, interests or energy level, there’s almost certainly a Pride event happening here in Southern Maryland that you’ll enjoy.
Pride Events In Anne Arundel County
The Anne Arundel County Public Library is hosting Pride events into August, including a glow-in-the-dark bingo night, a family story time and a gender-affirming clothes swap. Artists will be interested in the Share Your Story with Pride Art Show, which will be accepting submissions at the Odenton Library and Severna Park Library until Tuesday, June 23. The reception will be Monday, June 29, from 6-7:30 p.m.
The Annapolis Pride Parade & Festival will be on Saturday, Oct. 3 to coincide with LGBTQ+ History Month. To celebrate Pride this month, there are several official Annapolis Pride events across the city, like a fashion show & auction, a historical walking tour and a pet adoption drive.
Pride Events In Calvert County
The Calvert Public Library is partnering with The History of Southern Maryland Queer Recordings Archive Base (HSQRAB) to present local LGBTQ+ history at the Prince Frederick branch. The event will run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17. As of the time of writing, there are 59 seats left for this lecture and discussion, so history buffs should act fast to secure their spots.
Pride Events In Prince George’s County
The city of Mount Rainier is hosting a Pride Parade and community celebration from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 27.
Like their counterparts in Anne Arundel and Calvert, branches of the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System will be hosting a number of LGBTQ+-focused events like a workshop for crafting friendship bracelets, film discussions and a Rainbow Festival where attendees can celebrate Pride and connect with local LGBTQ+ organizations.
Pride Events In St. Mary’s County
PFLAG’s Southern Maryland chapter is headquartered in St. Mary’s and hosts its big Pride Festival in October, but it’s throwing a number of smaller festivities throughout June. These include the Pride proclamations mentioned above, as well as a coffee and a wine social hour, a Pride picnic and two painting events.
Pride Events In The City of Baltimore
For those who don’t mind city traffic or enjoy bigger crowds at Pride, Baltimore Pride is this week. Events like award ceremonies, a karaoke night, a job fair and a youth skate party are running from Monday, June 8, to Sunday, June 14. The celebrations culminate in the Pride Parade at noon on Saturday and at Druid Hill Park, which will run from Saturday to Sunday.
Pride Events In Washington, D.C.
The Capital Pride Alliance (CPA) sponsors a number of events in Washington, D.C., and Orlando, Florida, for Pride Month. The celebrations in D.C. lead up to the Capital Pride Parade on Saturday, June 20, and the Capital Pride Festival and Concert on Sunday, June 21.
