MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon, Jan. 30, 2026, that brought down utility wires and shut down part of Golden Beach Road led to a trauma center fly-out.
Emergency crews were dispatched around 12:40 p.m. to the intersection of Golden Beach Road and Huntt Road after a vehicle left the roadway and struck a telephone pole. The impact split the pole in half, sending wires down across the area and forcing an immediate road closure while crews secured the scene.
Fire and rescue units arrived to find heavy damage to the vehicle, including about three feet of intrusion into the engine compartment. All airbags had deployed. SMECO was requested to handle utility repairs as responders worked to stabilize the area.
The driver, a 38-year-old man, was alert but complained of head and neck pain. Responders also reported confusion associated with a knee injury. Due to the nature of the crash and the patient’s condition, Maryland State Police Trooper 7 was requested.
The helicopter landed on Golden Beach Road, which remained temporarily shut down during the operation. The patient was flown to UM Capital Region Medical Center for further treatment.
No other vehicles were involved. The crash remains under investigation.
