accident in somd

WELCOME, Md. — A woman in her 50s was taken to the hospital late Thursday night, May 22, 2025, after her vehicle veered off Port Tobacco Road and into a wooded area near Welcome Woods Place.

The incident was reported around 11:15 p.m. First responders arrived minutes later to find a single vehicle off the roadway with a lone occupant inside. Although the driver was not physically trapped, emergency crews had to clear vegetation to help her exit the car.

A Maryland State Police helicopter was initially requested due to the severity of the crash, but the airlift was canceled after medics determined the patient was conscious, intoxicated, and behaving belligerently.

The woman was ultimately transported by ground to UM Charles Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police continue to investigate.
