On August 10 at 9 a.m., officers responded to 50 Post Office Road in Waldorf after receiving a call from a physician’s office that a woman was in the lobby with a pit bull dog and refusing to leave.
When officers arrived, they asked the woman, Courtney Jones, 21 of Upper Marlboro, to leave Jones refused at which point officers began escorting her out of the office. Jones initially walked with the officer but suddenly stopped and ordered her pit bull to attack. The dog began biting at the officer’s foot but the officer was wearing boots which prevented the dog from breaking the skin. The officer gained control of Jones and placed her under arrest. As Jones was being placed in the officer’s car, the woman began kicking and yelling. The pit bull continued biting at the officer at which point another officer arrived on the scene and secured the dog. Jones continued kicking and shattered the rear passenger window of the officer’s cruiser.
Jones was subsequently transported to the Charles County Detention Center where she was charged with first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, trespassing, and disorderly conduct, failure to obey a lawful order, resisting arrest, and destruction of property.
