Thomas Johnson Bridge

SOLOMONS, Md. – Around 3:30 p.m. today, August 12, 2024, a woman reportedly attempted suicide by jumping from the Thomas Johnson Bridge, causing traffic to be temporarily suspended. Witnesses say the woman exited her vehicle, briefly looked back, and then jumped into the water.

A Good Samaritan boater nearby quickly intervened, pulling the unconscious woman into their vessel. The woman was then brought to the Solomons Island boat ramp, where EMS and first responders were waiting.

The patient is currently being transported to CalvertHealth Medical Center as a priority one case, with CPR in progress. Sheriff’s deputies moved the woman’s vehicle, which had been left on the bridge with the keys inside, allowing traffic to resume.

This is a developing story, and more details will be provided as they become available.

  1. I drive over the Nice bridge everyday for work and dont encounter these issues. What is it about the TJ bridge that makes people want to jump?

    1. Opportunities. There are less opportunities available to those who feel “stuck” in this peninsula. Every time you drive across that bridge it’s to work and so you may not be a depressed person so it’s understandable not be able to see someone else feels when they don’t have it like you. Suicidal people don’t see a way out of their hurt most of the time and/or their attempts at getting help they need have failed and they may feel this is the only way to be free. In these cases we can learn to have more empathy for people like that than to be angry at them for trying to help themselves.

    2. Because of its height, they can go there instead of driving a hour to the Potomac river

  2. Life is to short, I don’t care if you li e to be 105yrs old the time goes by so quick, just remember today’s problems won’t be here tomorrow, but you won’t know that because you committed suicide… I lost 3 to that crap..
