Bobbie Jo Tippett

Leonardtown, MD — A Hollywood woman has been sentenced to 363 days in jail for violating her probation on a prescription drug fraud conviction. St. Maryโ€™s County Circuit Court Judge Michael Stamm sentenced Bobbie Jo Tippett, 21, during a hearing March 2.

Tippett was originally sentenced in October of 2013 after pleading guilty to obtaining controlled dangerous substances by fraud/tampering. When she was arrested by the St. Maryโ€™s County Sheriffโ€™s Department it was reported that she was in possession of an altered Oxycodone prescription with intent to distribute it.

Tippett was sentenced after the plea to one year in jail but all but the two days she had served was suspended. Tippett allegedly violated her probation by failing to complete drug counseling and after she had a โ€œrelapse,โ€ according to her attorney, public defender Sean Moran. The judge imposed the suspended portion of the sentence.

Judge Stamm did allow Tippett to delay her reporting to jail until 6 p.m. March 3 so she could get the arrangements for the care of her three-year-old child attended to. Judge Stamm noted, โ€œYou have a child. This behavior is not helping you.โ€ He noted that the Department of Social Services could take her child away from her if she continued down the path she was on.

The judge denied Moranโ€™s request for work release for his client, saying she needed to get her drug problems in check. He did say he would allow her to attend a residential drug treatment program and give her credit for the time in it if she completed the program.
