Park Hall, MD— On Feb.3, the St.Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office arrested Emma F. Clark, 28, of Lexington Park for a theft scheme that involved Clark removing over $53,040 from Cook’s Liquors automated teller machine (ATM) between July.1, 2015 and Dec.13, 2015.

According to charging documents, “Upon realizing there were shortages in the business accounts the victim conducted a total audit of all business records, determining the shortages were narrowed down to defendant Clark and the business’ ATM.”

“Upon discovering the thefts, defendant Clark was confronted by the owner/victim. The defendant openly acknowledged committing the thefts and agreed to repay the stolen currency,” according to charging documents.

The defendant signed a written statement to her employer explaining how she was able to remove the U.S. Currency, “devising a method of zeroing out the cash in the machine by making a false entry, and then taking that cash, I (Clark) would then put new money in the machine and produce a transaction statement validating the deposit, thereby disguising my theft,” according to charging documents.

Clark is being charged with theft scheme of $10,000 to under $100,000.

Clark at this time does not have a scheduled court date. Clark faces a maximum jail sentence of 15 years and or a maximum fine of $15,000.

The investigating officer who prepared the charging documents used in this case was Detective D.M. Alexander of the St.Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
