La Plata, MD – Susan Rose Weimert, 28 of La Plata, will face sentencing March 30 on theft charges (less than $1,000) and possession of heroin after accepting a plea agreement before Charles County Circuit Court Judge Amy J. Bragunier Tuesday, Jan. 5.

Weimert and co-defendant Blair Patrick Hayes were to face jury trials Jan. 5 for a May 25, 2015 burglary at a La Plata laundromat where Hayes allegedly kicked the door in and the couple went inside, leaving โ€œone or two minutes laterโ€ according to Charles County Assistant Stateโ€™s Attorney Constance Kopelman.

Kopelman said a witness called police after seeing the incident.

โ€œThe owner would have testified that $750 was taken,โ€ Kopelman said.

She added that two surveillance cameras from two nearby businesses both showed the defendant and Hayes crossing the parking lot when the incident occurred.

Weimert is the daughter of the laundromat owner, Kopelman stated.

The couple got into further trouble June 10 when police made contact with them at a hotel while trying to serve an arrest warrant.

Kopelman said when police made contact with the defendant in the hotel, โ€œon her person were five bags of heroin.โ€

Defense Attorney Benjamine I. Evan countered that assertion.

โ€œThere was CDS in the hotel room, but not necessarily on her person,โ€ Evan stated.

Bragunier told the defendant that under the conditions of the plea agreement, Weimert agrees to pay $750 in restitution.

Weimert faces up to 18 months incarceration on the theft charge and four years on the heroin possession charges. The judge also told the defendant that if she enrolls in a drug treatment program, she could move the March 30 sentencing date up on the calendar.

Hayes was to appear before Judge Helen I. Harrington, but according to Charles County Assistant Public Defender Gerald J. Riviello, the judge recused herself from the case, so it went before Bragunier.ย

He too, will face sentencing March 30.
