Finally, there is a place to go that serves Southern Style dishes like Ribs, Crab Cakes , Local seafood and more: the new Rustic River Bar & Grill located at 40874 Merchants La in Leonardtown.
The best part is the affordable pricing and quality service they provide. Owners Matt Kulp, Dina Kulp and Rick Stommel partnered up just recently to fill a much needed void in restaurants in Leonardtown. Stommel, the Manager of Adams Ribs brings his 15 years of restaurant expertise to the table while Matt and Dina Kulp were the owners of Arizona Pizza and wanted to bring a new concept to Leonardtown.
Matt Kulp has been building houses in St. Mary’s County for 25 years before deciding to open a restaurant. Dina Kulp grew up working in restaurants, “being Greek and from Baltimore that was a given.”
Patrons will discover that the owners are very involved in every aspect of the restaurant’s operations: Stommel preparing dishes, Dina Kulp greeting guests and Matt Kulp improving the restaurant grounds. Diners are invited to join them for some freshly breaded shrimp and oysters and enjoy a specialty cocktail – Rustic Lemonade is the house favorite!
Stommel’s menu is a labor of love developed over the past 10 years. The selections include classic southern dishes, seafood, ribs, steaks and more. The restaurant also features fresh brick-oven pizza and calzones in addition to homemade skillet cornbread also cooked in the wood-fired oven.
Each menu item is made fresh daily including a fresh Soup and Gumbo of the day. Visitors are encouraged to discover some scrumptious and popular menu items such as Cajun Crab Dip for only $10, Fried Oyster Caesar, only $14, Fried Shrimp for the low price of $9 and delightful Maryland Crab Cake Platter for only $14.
Daily Specials feature popular menu items including Sunday $10 Crab Cake Sandwiches and Thursday All U Can Eat Mussels from 5 p.m. to Close. Additionally, Stommel has been known to throw in some fresh grilled rockfish specials and homemade meatloaf.
Rustic River offers a lunch menu with smaller portions of regular menu items for dine-in and carry-out and can also be delivered as a box lunch for those that cannot get away. Those press for time at lunch need only call in their order ahead to Rustic River and it will be waiting when they arrive.
The restaurant will also be featuring an outdoor dining area which is planned as the perfect area for enjoying Southern Maryland’s favorite food, drink and weather.
Happy Hour is Monday through Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m. with $1 off all drinks and $3 shrimp ‘po boys,’ corn-breaded andouille sausage and mini sliders.
