Summer Challenge is a weekend sailing event consisting of a “Fun Cruise,” small and big boat racing and a “Shore Party” on Saturday, Aug. 28 and team racing on Sunday, Aug. 29. Bring out your family and your friends for a fun day on the water all for a good cause.
The mission is to raise funds for four Southern Maryland organizations; Calvert Hospice, Prince Frederick Rotary Foundation, Hospice of St. Mary’s and the Southern Maryland Sailing Foundation. Funds raised are divided evenly among each organization so they may accomplish their own mission.
The Hospice organizations provide care to those living with a terminal illness and support to their families, as well as bereavement services to those faced with grief.
The Prince Frederick Rotary Foundation awards college scholarships, provides dictionaries to local elementary and supports the needy and hungry in the community.
The Southern Maryland Sailing Foundation supports youth sailing through a high school sailing program, youth and adult sailing classes and the hosting of championship regattas. This event was formulated in 2007 when Stovy Brown, who is involved in Rotary and the Southern Maryland Sailing Foundation met with the local Hospice organizations. He was looking for an opportunity to come together, hold a local sailing event and raise funds that, in the end, would be put back into the community, supporting the youth and those in need of care and comfort.

You can help by becoming a sponsor the event. Your contribution will benefi t Southern Maryland organizations, directly impacting the community. Sponsors truly benefi t from their participaton – they are showcased as community supporters and receive great publicity. You can participate as a sailor as a cruiser, as a racer on big or small boats or participate on a team racing team.
This is a great event for those just looking for fun and for competive sailors. Your partcipation will help local organizations continue to support the community in important ways.
