DISTRICT HEIGHTS, Md. — Grab your napkins, Maryland — Zaxbys is almost here, and it’s coming in hot.
The fried chicken favorite with a cult following below the Mason-Dixon line is officially bringing its bold, saucy Southern swagger to the Washington suburbs. Construction is underway on Zaxbys’ first D.C.-area location at the corner of Pennsylvania Avenue and Brooks Drive in District Heights, where the chain is building a 2,064-square-foot restaurant packed with flavor and designed for speed.
We’re talking a dual drive-thru for the lunchtime rush, an open kitchen for fresh-off-the-line orders, and all the crispy Chicken Fingerz, buttery toast, and crinkle fries you can handle. If all goes as planned, Zaxbys will open its doors by late summer — and hungry locals will finally get their fix without crossing state lines.
While District Heights will be Zaxbys’ first outpost in Prince George’s County, it’s part of a much bigger rollout across Maryland. The official state debut will take place on the Eastern Shore, where three locations — in Cambridge, Easton, and Berlin — are expected to open later this year. Zaxbys is also cooking up locations in Waldorf and throughout the Baltimore metro area, including Nottingham, Glen Burnie, Rosedale, and Ellicott City.
The Georgia-born chain has already conquered the South, with more than 900 locations in 17 states. Now, it’s setting its sights on the Mid-Atlantic — and betting big on Maryland’s appetite for fast-casual comfort food with an edge.
In a state where the chicken wars are already sizzling, Zaxbys is jumping into the ring with a full menu of flavor-packed heavyweights: creamy mac and cheese, over-the-top Zalads, and a sauce lineup that inspires road trips and loyalty tattoos. (No really — the fan base is that serious.)
For longtime Zaxbys fans, the opening in District Heights is a long-awaited homecoming. For the uninitiated, it’s a chance to taste what Southern diners have been raving about for decades.
Fried. Sauced. Toasted. Maryland’s about to meet its new obsession.

Heavens to Betsy…,that’s exactly what Prince George’s County needs. Another chicken joint!
Have you ever had Zaxby’s ? It make canes taste like cardboard and gives Chick-fil-A salads a run for their money! But if your over chicken, don’t go. That will be one less person while I’m in line 😊
Omg yes,yes and yes I can’t wait.
YESSS as someone from the south, Zaxby’s and blue bell are the two things I’ve missed most
So Happy! Zaxby is 10 times better than Raising Cane’s and gives Slim Chickens a run for its money! I don’t have wait to go down South when I go to My Homecoming at FSU in Fayetteville, NC to get it in a month!
Yes! I had their food once and it was so good!
Yet, ANOTHER chicken establishment in PG County! So unfortunate that the Council hasn’t figured out the means to attract more upscale eateries for its constituency to experience.
something tells me this is going to be taxed. Remember the Boston Tea Party?
