The Zonta Club of Charles County is gearing up for their annual district conference which will be held September 23-25, 2011 in Solomonโs Island, Maryland.
Founded in 1919, Zonta International is a global organization of executives and professionals working together to advance the status of women worldwide through service and advocacy. With more than 30,000 members belonging to more than 1,200 Zonta Clubs in 64 countries and geographic areas, Zontians all over the world volunteer their time, talents and support to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship programs aimed at fulfilling Zonta’s mission and objectives.
Susanne von Bassewitz, Zonta International (ZI) Liaison and Director will be visiting from Germany and attending the ZI District 3 Conference. She notes, โMembership retention, development and growth at the local club level are essential today and vital to the organizationโs ability to influence the status of women in the future.โ Accordingly, the theme of this yearโs conference is โTreasures of Zonta, Charting a Course for the Futureโ which signals our shared commitment to growing the organization. โIncreasing district 3โs membership and spotlighting the significant advocacy and service work Zonta International does around the world is our collective challenge.ย Our local club has grown to sixty members,โ says Pamela Young, PR, Zonta Club of Charles County.ย ย
โWe are looking to grow our club by activating community partnerships. Membership candidates are currently being sought among community leaders who are executives and professionals, or others in a decision-making capacity,โ says Billie Stachura, membership co-chair, Zonta Club of Charles County.
The Zonta Club of Charles County, founded in 1981 has initiated innovative localย projects serving girls and young women and raises funds to support scholarships and the Zonta International Foundation (ZIF), the official charitable foundation of Zonta International. โWe are so proud that our organization helps to provide more than US$1 million annually for programs and projects that benefit thousands of women around the world,โ says Kimberly Rosenfield, president, Zonta Club of Charles County.ย ย
District 3 includes thirty-one clubs from the Atlantic East Coast, including Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.ย โIt is always such a great experience of sharing with other clubs and meeting new members from different areas of the district.ย We all volunteer our time, talents and support to local and international service projects, as well as scholarship programs aimed at fulfilling Zonta’s mission and objectives,โ says Lisa Fraser, District 3 Governor, Zonta International.
