Maryland Deputy State Fire Marshals investigated a fire that occurred at 6:29 p.m. May 6, at 21634 Weatherby Lane, Lexington Park.

Ten firefighters from the Bay District Fire Department and the Patuxent River Naval Air Station responded and were able to bring the fire under control in less than five minutes. There were no injuries.

The home owned by Robert and Kristen Zook sustained an estimated $1,000 damage.

Deputy State Fire Marshals determined the fire began on the exterior of the dwelling near the chimney.

The investigation further revealed the blaze began when a 12-year-old deliberately ignited paper. The fire spread and damaged the exterior of the two-story wood frame dwelling.

The youth was released to the custody of parents pending further action by the Department of Juvenile Services.
