On June 12, the American Cancer Society will host the 13th annual Relay For Life, St. Mary’s County at the Leonardtown High School track. The event Celebrates cancer survivors, Remembers those who have lost their battle, and offers ways to Fight Back against this disease.

This Relay season currently has 95 teams of people from families, businesses, St. Mary’s Hospital, all public schools, the Navy, the Knights of Columbus, Navy Federal Credit Union, groups of friends, and more. The county Relay For Life planning committee set the goal to raise $230,000 for the American Cancer Society this year. Heading into the event, St. Mary’s County has raised nearly $140,000 thus far. The committee also has the goal of getting 1445 registered participants, and the current number is nearly 1300 participants.

Relay For Life is a fun-filled, family-oriented overnight event, with entertainment, activities, and exercise throughout the night. Relay team members take turns walking or running laps with closing ceremonies at about 5:30 a.m. on June 13. The theme for this year’s event is “The 80’s.”
